I’ve been obsessed with essential oils. When I’m home, I’ll have my oil diffuser on 24/7. Not to say I don’t have my Jo Malone candles burning every once in a while, but I’ve shifted towards oil diffusers for it’s health benefits. I’m going to share some of my favorite oils and the health benefits of each. Each oils are pure so it can be directly rubbed onto you skin. I typically run 2 drops of oils on the bottom of my feet because the oil gets absorbed quickest and directly to your blood stream on the feet. Or sometimes I’ll run it behind my ears if my neck is feeling tense or if I have a mild migraine.
Tip: Make sure to get pure oils and not mixed with other gross oils or add on’s. You want to be inhaling pure oils if you’re using it as a diffuser. And if you’re using it for your skin, then you really want to ensure it’s the purest form.
Orange Oil – I have a big bottle of this particular oil because I just LOVE the scent and it puts me in a really good mood. Like you’re making your bed humming to Tay Tay and smiling for no apparent reason. Other benefits include anti-inflammatory, antidepressant,, antiseptic, aphrodisiac,, diuretic, tonic, and sedative.
Cinnamon Leaf – Cinnamon leaf oil contains 80 percent phenols, mainly eugenol, which has anesthetic, antiseptic, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. However, eugenol may also irritate your skin, especially when applied near or on the mucous membranes. This is pure oil so I don’t run this onto my skin but mainly use it as an oil diffuser. And it smells lovely especially around the winter holidays!
Peppermint – Helps with irritable bowel syndrome, gas, indigestion, memory problems, nausea, bad breath, cavities, headaches, stress, asthma, and muscle pain. This oil really is multi-functional. When I get mild migraines, I’ll run 1-2 drops on the temples of my face. And when I’ve pushed myself in one too many Pilates classes, I’ll rub 2 drops on my chest for muscle pain. And I’ve also read that insects detest the smell of peppermint so I’ve added equal portions of water and oil to a spray bottle and spray random spots in my house to deter spiders.
Rosemary – Helps with hair growth, improves memory, liver detoxification, increases circulation, cure headaches, boost immunities, alleviate muscle and joint pain. I’ve used this oil to stimulate hair growth by adding about 10 drops in a 3 oz spray bottle mixed in with water. And I’ll spray this in my scalp twice a week before bed. I’ve been doing this since earlier this year and it’s made my hair stronger and helped with dandruff.
Frankincense – The health benefits of frankincense oil are mostly attributed to its anti-inflammatory, immune boosting properties. It also helps reduce stress and with negative emotions and helps decrease inflammation and pain. I personally mix this oil in with my orange oil in my diffuser to get that extra boost of good mood going all day long.
Clove Leaf – helps deter mosquitoes, combats fatigue, increases sexual performance, relieves headaches, earache and respiratory problems, fungal infections, and improves digestion. When traveling in tropical areas, I’ll rub this on my neck, wrists, ankles and back of the knee so I won’t get bitten by mosquitoes. I was in Cancun earlier this year and I was freaked out by the Zika virus so I was literally walking around smelling like a Clove Leaf. (LOL) But it worked! Because I was not bitten once during my trip.
Eucalyptus – The health benefits of eucalyptus oil are well-known and wide-ranging, and its properties include anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestants, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and other medicinal qualities. Eucalyptus essential oil is colorless and has a distinctive taste and odor. TBH, I use this oil as a diffuser for its aromatherapy benefits. One of my favorite spa destinations is the Ritz Carlton at the Rancho Mirage and the entire spa smells like eucalyptus leaf. So the smell puts me in a really relaxing mood like I’m at my favorite spa place. (except I’m actually in my bathroom but still get that totally zen feeling)
Lavender – The health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. I use this oil daily. I’ll run 2 drops on my bottom of my feet at night to get a good sleep. I typically don’t have sleep problems, nor do I have problems falling asleep but it helps me relax. I’ve recently shared here that my anxiety has been at it’s all time high lately, and lavender has been a tremendous help. I personally love the smell of lavender so I’ll run 3 drops in my hair and the aroma stays in my hair for about 4 hours. And it’s all natural so it give my skin a break from using perfumes that’s full of toxins. (but again, I’m obsessed with perfumes so I can’t get myself to stop. it’s all about #balance!)
Bergamot – The health benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antidepressant, relieves anxiety, treat digestive problems, hormonal balance, skin care by reducing scar marks and other blemish, prevent infections in cuts, pain relief, chest congestion, reduce fever, and reduces scalp itch. Like lavender, this is one of my go-to’s oils and I use it every morning. I’ll use 2 drops on my feet to help with depression. I don’t suffer from depression, but anything to help with my anxiety and get me better spirits.
I’ve linked all my oils down below with the diffuser I use at home. I’ve purchased all my oils from Amazon because I think it’s the least expensive option compared to my local health store or Wholefoods. I’m so thankful that I’ve been introduced to essential oils by my GF Laura a few years ago as it’s the natural way remedy to heal health issues. It’s helped me tremendously and I hope it helps some of you!
